What Counts as a Complaint

You don't need special wording or a formal letter. If you're unhappy with something, that's reason enough to tell us.

Any concern, taken seriously — that's the standard we hold ourselves to.

If you're dissatisfied with a product, a service, the way a member of our staff dealt with you, one of our internal processes, or how a previous issue was handled — that's a complaint, and you're entitled to raise it. Once you do, we're obliged to look into it fairly, promptly, and openly, and to tell you what we found.

What you can expect from us

A fair hearing, an impartial review, updates along the way, and a clear final answer — at every stage, without exception.

Your details stay private

How We Handle Your Complaint

Your complaint follows this structured path until it's fully resolved. Each stage has a clear owner and timeline:

Complaint Receipt & Acknowledgement
First Touch Resolution & Escalation Handling
Complaint Resolution Unit
Executive Management
Regulatory Bodies
Entry We acknowledge you — within 1 working day
As soon as your complaint reaches us, through any channel, it's logged in our Complaint Management System. You'll receive an acknowledgement with a unique Complaint Reference Number within one working day, so you can track progress at any point.
Level 1 We try to resolve it at first contact
An authorised officer at your branch or in the Contact Centre reviews your complaint straight away. If it can be resolved there and then, it is. If it needs closer investigation or involves a more complex issue, it's escalated without delay to our dedicated Complaint Resolution team.
Level 2 Independent review — within 3 working days
Our centralised Complaint Resolution Unit takes over from here. It operates separately from frontline service teams, so your case gets an unbiased, consistent review. We aim to resolve it within three working days. If it genuinely needs more time, we'll contact you proactively with a clear update and a revised date.
Level 3 Executive-level attention, if needed
Complaints that warrant it are escalated to our Customer Steering Committee, chaired by the Key Management Person of our Financial Consumer Relationship Department (FCRD). The committee meets monthly to review complaint trends, address root causes, and drive service improvements.
Beyond Us Independent, external review
If you're still not satisfied with our final response — or you'd simply prefer an outside opinion — you're entitled to take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Sri Lanka or the Financial Consumer Relations Department (FCRD) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Both are independent of CDB and free to use.
If your case is complex enough that resolution takes longer than 21 working days, we'll contact you proactively with a clear progress update and a confirmed revised date — you won't be left wondering.
